Christmas Festivities
December 2011
In 2011, 6 days of entertainment were organised for High St, on the Thursdays and Saturdays leading up to Christmas. Thursdays brought music to the street during lunchtime, including a jazz duo, brass band, the Voice of Hastings choir and the very memorable Tubby the Robot. On Saturdays, we had Santa visit Hastings with his fun helpers: elves, Christmas clowns and giant candy canes! Santa was available for free photos on his throne, which was well received. The atmosphere during December was very exciting, and kept High St very busy during the festive season.
Hastings Trade Expo
10 November 2011
The annual Hastings Trade Expo was run on 10 November at the Hastings Community Hub and sponsored by BlueScope Steel. 25 stallholders and over 100 attendees enjoyed the evening, with an amazing array of local businesses presenting what they do in very creative ways. Joan Kirner (previous Victorian premier) also attended the expo, which was quite an honour.
Social Media Training Session
September 2011
We ran our first Social Media Training Session at the IT Hub in the Hastings Community Hub on 12 September. With the 8 attendees, they completed their Facebook business pages, learnt how to update them and also updated their Google Places listings. We will run future training sessions as demand grows. Visit Hastings - TV Promotion
April-May 2011
The "Win a TV" promotion was run throughout April and May, coinciding with a "Visit Hastings" liftout in MP News Group newspapers, encouraging shoppers from all over the peninsula to visit Hastings. The competition was very successful, with over 1,700 entries. The two TV prizes went to Gay Carroll from Hastings Cove, and the shop that Gay entered into the competition: Hastings Camping and Outdoor. Congratulations to both winners.
Hastings Retail Directory
August 2010
The Hastings Retail Directory was given a second life in 2010, after the suburb not having a directory printed in the past 5 years. A fresh design was produced while all business details were being updated. The finished map was distributed via Western Port News to Hastings and surrounding suburbs. We intend to schedule half-yearly reissues of the Hastings Retail Directory to ensure it remains up-to-date.
Hastings Trade Expo
May 2010
The first-ever Hastings Trade Expo was run on May 28 at the Western Port Hotel. Bendigo Bank in Hastings fully supported the idea and gave the chamber sponsorship, which helped towards the success of the event.
15 local businesses each held a stall, with over 50 attendees joining us on the night. Each stall was unique, colourful and informative: it was the perfect opportunity to see the products and services of each business that are sometimes missed. New contacts and friendships were made; the conversations went on long after everyone had packed up and were going home!
Such an enjoyable night was had by all who attended, that future trade expos are in planning. The next Hastings Trade Expo is being organised for October 2010, by request of our chamber members. If you are interested in running a stall at the next trade expo, please make sure to email Sarah at

Domestic Bliss for Mother's Day
April 2010
For the lovely mothers of Hastings, a "25 words or less" competition was run in April to coincide with Mother's Day. The promotion, named "Domestic Bliss for Mother's Day", had five $100 house cleaning gift vouchers to give away to give some lucky hard-working mums a break for a day! The vouchers were given out in time to be given to the mums on Mother's Day on May 9.
Entries varied from cute to inspirational from kids, mothers (for their mums), and even a couple of dads!

Easter Eggstravaganza

The Easter Eggstravaganza raffle was held throughout March, inviting shoppers to fill in an entry form while shopping at their favourite stores in Hastings. The response was huge – over 2000 entries were received from all across the peninsula! It showed us that Hastings is a shopping spot for more than just Hastings residents.
A variety of prizes were donated from Blooms on High, Teddy & Friends, Espara Hair & Beauty and Maquay Restaurant. The main prizes were four beautiful Easter hampers put together by Tracey and her team and Blooms on High, which were well received by the excited winners.
